Following the first batch of four vehicles supplied to refrigerated courier company Igloo Thermo-Logistics, refrigerated body builder GRP Group in Leeds has recently supplied a second order for four vehicles as part of a new contract won by Igloo.
Four new 3.5tonne Mercedes Benz 311 Sprinter panel vans, each with GRP dual compartment van conversions, have gone into service with Igloo on school contracts in the Leeds and surrounding areas. All the vehicles are transporting a mixture of frozen and chilled goods, with temperatures ranging from –25° C to +30° C.
Within each GRP body, there is a moveable insulated mid bulkhead system to give flexibility of load compartment sizes. The side and double rear doors have been modified for deep frozen application and the bodies have been adapted for pallet load operation. Refrigeration is supplied from a GAH SRHCF21T refrigeration system, whilst Transcan temperature monitoring equipment and Masternaut vehicle tracking have also been specified.
“We have had a good relationship with GRP since we acquired the first vehicles. The build quality from GRP is first class and, in service, our previous vehicles with GRP conversions have proved to be very reliable, easily handling the variable loads that we transport on behalf of our extensive UK customer base,” said Anthony Coates-Smith, from Igloo Thermo-Logistics.
Igloo is the transport services provider for a consortium that won the contract to supply Leeds City Council with fresh and frozen produce for its schools, delivering on a daily basis from a brand new warehouse facility recently opened in Leeds. The funding for this contract came partly as a result of Igloo Thermo-Logistics appearing on the BBC TV programme “Dragons’ Den”, where the Home Counties based company was successful in raising substantial funding for their ambitious expansion plans.
Igloo operates a fleet of over 30 temperature controlled vehicles offering multi temperature capability, whilst those vehicles handling European deliveries are all ATP certificated by GRP, making pan-European distribution a smooth and efficient process. For smaller cost effective assignments, Igloo also operates some Smart Cars and Vauxhall Combo’s with frozen and chill capabilities.
“Igloo have grown tremendously over the last few years and it is pleasing that they see GRP as a reliable and regular partner in their vehicle acquisition programme,” said Sales Director at GRP Group.
