First GRP box body for Staton Foods

The first vehicle in their fleet to be specified with GRP bodywork has recently gone into service with Hertfordshire manufacturer Staton Foods, following the arrival of a new Isuzu NQR 7.5tonne chassis cab fitted with one of the new 16ft GRP refrigerated box bodies. This latest addition to the company’s 14 strong distribution fleet is working on a dedicated delivery run in and around Cambridge, carrying palletised fresh meats to customers in the area, including various colleges and universities premises as well as group restaurants and independent caterers. Staton Foods specified their first GRP refrigerated box body, with features including side door access as well as a rear wide lath shutter door and a Dhollandia cantilever tail lift. Refrigeration is supplied by a Hubbard 520AL-24 direct drive refrigeration system. “The combination of the Isuzu chassis with the GRP refrigerated box body is ideal for the journeys made in and around Cambridge. Not only does the light gvw enable us to benefit from an increased payload in comparison to other vehicles, but also the vehicle is superb for manoeuvring around the many narrow streets and tight corners within the university city. The bespoke GRP box body holds the temperature well and the overall vehicle is impressive in appearance which in turn has led to many positive comments from our customers,” said Keith Smith from Staton Foods. Staton Foods is a family owned company that is based in Hitchen, Herts with a pedigree going back over 40 years, supplying fresh meat, poultry and game to the hotel, restaurant and catering trades.
